Moretons Investigation Report
Investigation File
Location: (Moreton-in-Marsh, Oxfordshire, England)
Date: 7th February 2009
Time: 6:30pm - 4.30am
Duration of Investigation: 10 hours

Ian, Barri, Rob Powell, Bongo, Robbie Leech, and Phil Measey arrived at the Moretons Pub & Restaurant at around 6.30pm on Saturday 7th February.
Our early arrival meant that we were able to view the premises and get a good feel for the location before setting up our cameras. We were greeted by David Hayto, Manager of the Pub & Restaurant, and introduced to Luke, and Sam who were to accompany us throughout the night.
David invited us to look around the entire location highlighting the areas that had previously been the site of paranormal activity. Ian, Barri, and Rob Powell followed David around the location, assessing it for technical set-up, and health and safety.
We were guided to the upstairs of the building first, arriving in the attic floor. This area is split into two rooms with a space between used as a landing, and storage point.
Attic Room A to the left, was a constant 7 degrees centigrade, and felt a lot cooler than the rest of the house. We all felt that it had a strange unwelcoming presence there, and took some base EMF reading using the K2 which seemed within the normal range. Upon examining the walls of the room, we noticed some very strange drawings, and words scribbled onto the dilapidated
paint work.

David explained that there had been a teenage girl living in the pub a few years ago, and that she may have drawn the images. There were two colourful flowers painted onto the walls, and series of eyes drawn in black pencil. The words, Eyes are the windows to your soul, were scrawled underneath one of the drawings, and on the adjacent wall, a pair of eyes stared back at us. This was unusual, and seemed very odd. What was stranger, was that David had explained, how he and two others came up to the room a few months ago and saw these images, but missed the largest most obvious drawing at the bottom of one of the walls. A clear face with detail was very visible and looked like it was made by a different hand. The style of the eyes, and shading made us wonder who had been responsible for such strange drawing in a very cold, spooky, and bare area of the 600 year old building.

As we examined the drawings and words in more detail, our K2 meters begun spiking from green to red, indicating a massive change in the electro-magnetic field in the room. We quickly monitored this, and used three K2 devices to corroborate our results.
The EMF fluctuations seemed like they were concentrated to an area for a few seconds, and then moved out of range and disappeared completely. We checked the walls, floor, and beams for electrical wires, power sockets, and for any sources of EMF. We found none. The only source of man-made
elctro-magnetic energy in that room was from a spot on the floor which was directly above a light fixture in the room below. The firld was small, and the K2 had to be placed with its back on the floor to pick this up. It did not account for the massive readings we experienced randomly as we assessed this part
of the attic.

We then moved across the landing and into Attic Room B, which was directly opposite the first room. This attic space, was in a very bad state, and came complete with dead birds, spiders, and old single mattresses. The floor was not very secure, and we entered one at a time for safety reasons.
We all experienced an EMF spike on the K2 meters almost immediately, and followed it around the room, until this too disappeared. It seemed that the energy was curious and wanted to make itself known, before retreating into the ether again.
We decided that this area was particularly active and agreed to put two IR Cameras up there to monitor any activity in the attic during the night.
The next location, David took us to was on the second floor, and directly below the attic room. This was a large bedroom, and was currently being used as a gym and occasional sleeping area for pub staff.

Upon entering this room, we all felt that the area had a very strange thick atmosphere. Ian in particular begun to feel a little nausious, and his legs
felt unstable.
We thought that our feelings were possibly due to a high EMF field in the
room, and made a full sweep using the K2 standard EMF meters to find a possible source.
Everything seemed to be within normal limits, and David Hayto began explaining the past experiences encountered by himself and the staff in this particular area of the building.
Apparently an adult female apparition had been seen in the bedroom along with a child by the pub chef, and also a guest. As David explained these experiences in more detail, Barri Ghai made a check in the described area using the K2 meter. Immediately, the lights on the device flashed and remained on amber for several seconds, possibly indicating a presence in the room with us. This field quickly disappered leaving us baffled, and a little un-nerved.
The next location was the lounge, also located on the 2nd floor. David described his personal experience with a dark tear shaped shadow. He recalled sitting watching the television one evening when he caught sight of a strange solid black shape flying around the picture rail of the room. It apparently circled the room twice before disapperaing into the wall of the adjacent bedroom.
He also described an incident where he and a witness, were startled when the two chandelier light fixtures in the room began to swing on the own accord.
We checked the lights, and found it hard to make them swing with the same speed as was described. The fixtures were heavy and securely attached to the ceiling. Above the lounge was just the roof. It was not possible for the synchronised movement to be caused by the vibrations from passing cars, trucks, or lorries, and there was no way a person could get to the space above the ceiling to cause them to swing.
David took us back to the ground floor and we made our way into the large basement area of the Pub & Restaurant with Matt Watkins, Robbie Leech,
Phil Measey, and John Bedford eager to see what lies beneath the old
stone building.

There had been no reported sightings of apparitions or strange shadows in this part of the building, and we did note the large appliances that were responsible for some of the EMF fields down there. The basement was still a creepy place, and very cold, damp and musty.
We all made our way back up the stairs to the main bar and restaurant area of the pub. This was the heart of the house and an area that was described to us as being particularly active.
All EMF fields in the bar and restaurant area were normal, and the temperature remained constant.
We began setting up cameras and equipment at around 8.30pm, and the rest of the team arrived at the Pub shortly after. Hella Norenz, Piers and Val O'Neill joined us at 9.00pm and immediately got involved with set up.
We chose a back bedroom on the second floor as base camp for the DVR recorder and monitoring station. This was tech headquarters for the night.
The IR cameras were connected up to the DVR Recorder and two were placed in the attic rooms, one in the main bedroom area, and one down in the basement. The investigation was also filmed using HD broadcast quality cameras by Piers, Val, and Robbie Leech.
Upon completion of the technical set up. Ian, and Barri escorted Bongo around the building to obtain her psychic perspective. We were accompanied by Piers, and Val who recorded the walk around.
Bongo, the G.P.S Spiritualist Medium, had not been briefed on the case, or told any of the experiences that had been told to us by David and his staff. She had no prior knowledge of the location and remained completely separate until this point in the night.
Bongo, had many strong feelings and impressions as she walked around. She felt the presence of a lady in the bar area, who was trying to communicate with her telepathically. She heard a screaming child, and felt a powerful energy in the bar area, directly underneath a wooden beam supporting the floor of the upstairs bedroom.
What was interesting about this feeling was that, Phil Measey who is also sensitive, and who had no knowledge of Bongo's thoughts on this area of the restaurant, separately identified that particular area as being paranormally active earlier that evening.
The following image was taken early on in the night by Rob Powell, and shows a very small but bright orb anomaly directly under the beam in question.

In the Attic Room A, Bongo explained that the room was very active, and that a female spirit was present with a child. Bongo explained how her spirit was also mentally confused and moved with the childs energy erratically around the building in a quick and uncontrolled manner, indicating to her that she may have suffered from some sort of mental problem.
We attempted to communicate with her in the attic by asking specific and direct questions, and gave the spirit an opportunity to knock once for yes, and twice for no in response.
During this experiment, Investigator Val O'Neill felt as if she had been touched on the head, and Barri Ghai saw a dark shadow just seconds before looming over her in the corner of the room. Here is a short clip of this particular experience.
Bongo also felt this same energy in the main bedroom and referred to the mother's energy as being a tortured soul. The room felt heavy and she sensed a great deal of negativity in there. Ian, Barri, and Bongo attempted to communicate with the spirit and asked a few questions. We had some very positive results. See the video evidence below.
We also asked the spirit to knock once for yes, and twice for no in response to several questions. The Moretons pub chef Mike, had stayed in that bedroom for 8 months before moving away to a nearby town. He told G.P.S that he moved, because he was unable to sleep in there after seeing the ghost of a woman and child on three seperate occasions.
Lead investigator Barri Ghai asked a specific question relating to this detail, and recieved a direct response in the form of a loud knock, which thrilled the team.
The next location on Bongo's walk around was the lounge area of the building. This was located on the second floor and staff had also witnessed activity in
this room.
Bongo felt that there was a definite swinging energy here, and had no prior knowledge of the swinging chandeliers in that room. She felt that there was a strange energy within the room, but was unable to pinpoint it precisely.
Following this area of the building, we took Bongo down stairs to the bar, and restaurant area, where she had remained for the early part of the evening during set up. She explained that a female energy was strong here and was trying to communicate with her. She also explained that the walls were thick with residual energy which seemed to linger in this area giving off mixed messages and different psychic impressions.
After the walk-around, we retreated back to the bar and prepared for dead time. Several members of the team commenced further technical set up upstairs on the second floor, and in the attic. Bongo, Phil Measey, John Bedford, and Matt Watkins remained in the bar and prepared themselves for dead time. As they were discussing the nights investigation, they were surprised to all hear what sounded like a bar stool shift a few inches on the hard stone tiles. Phil Measey and John Bedford quickly took photographs and Phil caught what appears to be a very bright orb next to the stool in question.

Unfortunately none of the team witnessed this stool move, but they were all convinced that it was indeed the stool that moved, and recreated the sound to make sure.
During this time, Ian Wilce continued to check the DVR and camera placement back in Head-Quaters. Barri Ghai and Rob Powell were located in the attic adjusting the IR cameras to get a better picture on the monitor in HQ. Ian kept in radio contact with them and directed them to position the camera in Attic Room A higher for greater picture quality. Whilst making these adjustments, Barri and Rob both heard the sound of somebody coming up the attic stairs to join them, but could not see anybody from where they were standing on the attic landing.
Barri contacted Ian on the two-way radio, to ask his location and the wareabouts of the team, and Ian replied that he was still in the back bedroom monitoring the DVR cameras and pictures on the monitor, and that the rest of the team were on the ground floor in the bar and restaurant area.
Barri and Rob quickly took some measurements after feeling the temperature drop significantly around the landing area of the attic. Both readings seemed normal at first, but the temperature at certain points of the small space showed a drop of 3 to 4 degrees, which they found significant. There were no big drafts, or windows up there and the pair were unable to account for the sudden temperature fluctuation.
As they moved into attic room B to adjust the position of the second IR camera, Ian called to them on the radio to say that the heavy punch bag in the main bedroom directly below was swinging by itself. Rob and Barri quickly and carefully made their way down the stairs and opened the door to the bedroom, where they both witnessed the heavy bag moving from left to right as if it had been kicked or punched hard. Unfortunately, we were not recording at the time as the cameras were still being adjusted across the top floor. Their initial thoughts were that the swinging may have been caused them walking from room to room above creating a vibration in the ceiling of the room below where the bag was fixed to the wall. They attempted to re-crate this and made their way back into Attic Room B to walk around and jump on the floorboards. Ian watched to see if this was the case, but it seemed to have no influence at all and left them asking the question who, or what moved the heavy bag?
Dead Time Evidence
12.00 am - 4.00 am
The large team divided up into 3 groups for the main part of the night. Lights were turned out, and the IR cameras began recording. Each group investigated a different part of the building and monitored the attic area, the main bedroom, and the restaurant on the ground floor of the Pub.
During this first part, all 3 teams experienced something that they could not explain. knocks, bangs, and strange sounds were features, and several members of the team had more unique experiences as detailed below.
EVP 1 - Recorded in the Attic Area by Robbie Leech.
There is a strange breath caught on this short clip which the team could not account for. It has been amplified to make the sound clearer.
EVP 2 & 3
- Recorded in the main Bedroom by Hella Norenz and Rob Powell
Hella Norenz and Rob Powell were in the main bedroom during this first vigil, and captured an answer to one of their questions on the digital voice recorder,
"Do you want us to stay?"..."Give us a sign"......(Answer)
Hella also attempted communication with the child's spirit that Bongo had earlier identified during the walk-around. In this EVP, Hella talks about dresses, & dolls, and the duo, hear 3 knocks in succession. This clip has been amplified to make the sounds clearer.
A Personal Account
Between 12.00 am and 1.00 am, Trainees Matt Watkins and John Bedford took the first shift watching and logging the activity from the monitor in tech headquarters.
Here is a personal account from John Bedford about his experience in that location:
"...We were taking turns watching the DVR channels 1/2/3 and 4 from the back bedroom on the 2nd Floor. We witnessed many light anomalies, which I would say could be explained easily as dust caused by the team walking in and out of the rooms. Midway into the first vigil, my Tri-Field meter suddenly spiked several times, and towards the end of the shift, Matt and I were trying to make out a
light anomaly on one of the camera channels when suddenly we both saw what looked like a black shadow, pass by our feet and move under or into the
DVR table."
Thinking it was a mouse or something, I immediately got on all fours and looked under the table to expect to see something, but there was nothing there, not even a pen or scrap of paper. We both looked at each other as if to say, what the hell was that?, and immediately tried to debunk it."
During the night, the team in its groups witnessed, experienced or heard various unexplained phenomena.
Ian Wilce and Val O'Neill, were at one stage located in the lounge room on the 2nd floor, and Ian experienced what he described as being an icy hand touch his own. This experience was frightening, and did encourage the pair to investigate further with more probing questions. The following video shows this incident, and if you watch closely, you may see the K2 spike very quickly immediately after the event!
During the second vigil at around 2am, Barri Ghai and Rob Powell were accompanied by manager David Hayto back in the main bedroom area. We felt that most of the activity was occuring here and conducted a short EVP experiment using the K2 meter.
We attempted to communicate with the female ebergy that was identified earlier in the attic by asking specific and direct questions gaving the spirit an opportunity to knock once for yes, and twice for no in response.
