The Devil Stone Inn
The Devil's Stone Inn is a 17th Century former farmhouse which was converted into a coaching inn around four hundred years ago. Sitting on the edge of the village square, the pub is a beamed, flagstone-floored building with several open fireplaces.
The inn is said to be attached to the church by a hidden tunnel and is reputed to be one of the twelve most haunted pubs in Britain.
The Inn is said to get its name from a nearby Devil Stone, a huge rock that as myth has it, dropped out of the devil's pocket as he fell from heaven to hell.
There are stories that include an elderly coachman seen in the restaurant and bar area, a grumpy old man seen in an upstairs bedroom and a little girl that likes to play hide and seek. Sink taps have been known to turn on by themselves and strange noises of running footsteps have been heard along the hallways at night.
Investigation Report - By Steve Meads
There were high EMF readings coming form all the lighting in the Inn and two locations were found to have extreme fields. One member of the public mentioned that she felt 'spooked out' by one area in particular. This area was immediately debunked as having an EMF field that flows out at least 4 feet into the corridor in question. Weather was fine with a clear night but fogging up heavily later.
Ian and myself arrived in good time at the Devils Stone Inn to find the Inn packed with local people enjoying themselves. Several of the locals including a few people on a short holiday break who were staying at the Inn, questioned Ian and myself for a good while about the world of the paranormal and what we do as members of G.P.S.
Joan, our medium for the evening, arrived a while later shortly followed by Richard Felix. It was a great pleasure to meet and work with them both.

Ian talks to Richard about the investigation plan
The event began later than planned due to the rugby being on, and waiting for two more people to arrive. there was also a general confusion amongst the merry atmosphere in the Inn itself.
Richard began by giving a presentation on his thoughts and ideas about what a ghost really is and how they may have been created out of fear. Richard feels this fear was manufactured by the churches. It is this fear that stops spirits crossing over. This talk took just over an hour and was very interesting and well delivered.
We then moved to one of the upstairs bedrooms where we began trying to communicate with any spirits by means of pendulum dowsing. Richard was explaining the basics and whilst retelling a story about his travels through several states in the USA, this EVP was captured: A question to Richard about his travels
With the help of Joan the medium and the dowsing pendulum we were apparently in contact with Jennie, the 7 year old spirit of a girl that loves playing 'peek-a-boo' with people who visit the Inn. We also heard from a spirit called Harold Denton who says he was a farmer but also enjoyed carpentry.
We all took a break and proceeded downstairs to the restaurant for the buffet.
Time was ticking on so we moved to the bar area where we began to do some glass divination. Shortly after the glass was placed onto the table, this EVP was captured on our digital voice recorder, but unfortunately not on video: EVP 2
We seemed to have begun communicating with a female who was murdered. It turns out that she was murdered by her father because sh had conceived a child out of wedlock. Our medium helped this female to pass on as her father would not let her leave. The next spirit we communicated with was a bit of a surprise, even for Richard who clearly states that this was 'something new'...
We had now begun talking to the girls father. Watch the video of this session. It starts with the final moments of the chat with the girl known as 'Anne':
It would appear that we helped both of them cross over... It is almost possible to see the exact moment that the father decided to take that step through the door.
Directly after this glass divination session, I was sat talking to a member of the public about the experience as she felt that she had seen a face in the glass. I was mentioning to her scrying with the use of mirrors, crystal balls and bowls of ink or water when this EVP was captured:
It sounds to me like it says "don't look now"..but I'll let you be the judge"
After this, we had a brief discussion period before we moved on to try some table tipping where we made contact with an 18 year old civil war soldier who was killed by cannon ball.
We believe we also helped him to cross over, as he was feeling guilty for his part in the war and the death of many others.
The next table tipping experiment was a request by one of the public to get the table to levitate. What happened was just as amazing. Richard, Ian and a couple others began the tipping session and gathered their energy in order to request the spirits to move the table.
The table took a while to begin rocking. It seemed that not much was going to happen.. but then, my camera turned itself off.
As soon as I had turned it back on, myself and a man sat next to me realised I had had 7 minutes of power drained from the battery. It was at this point that the table really began to impress. This table was made of oak wood and was quite heavy. Watch the video to see what happened.
Overall, it was a great night. A few people had doubts on their faces at the start, but at the end of the evening you could clearly see the amazement on their faces and how much they enjoyed the event. We had people coming from as far as London.
Can't wait to go again.
