Long Crendon Club Investigation Report
Part 2
Investigation File:
Location: (Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England)
Date: 28th March 2009
Time: 11.00pm - 6.30am
Duration of Investigation: 7.5 hours
Continued from page 1 >>> The activity around the pool table was short lived, and we moved our attention to the cellar area where Phil Measey, Rob Powell, and Kathie attempted to communicate with whatever was said to be haunting this area of the building.

The cellar was cooler than the adjacent bar, and we recorded the temperature as being just 14-15C. This area of the building is located on the same floor as the bar, and activity has been reported here by staff.
The small group attempted communication using the K2 meter, and recorded the audio with a digital voice recorder for EVP purposes. Rob Powell also recorded the event on a Sony Handycam using (NightShot Plus).

EMF Detector, Digital Voice Recorder, and K2 Meter
Here is a short video documenting the result of that vigil.
Whilst this group was in the cellar, trainee investigators Toni Seale, and Nikki Evans conducted a short investigation of the ladies toilets, where many guests and staff have felt uncomfortable and heard strange noises.

They both reported feeling very uncomfortable in this part of the building, and here is Toni's Seale's report of the events.
"...The toilet area felt quite threatening at times. Nikki and I did an EVP test in there and Nikki could feel the presence of a woman. Out of all the areas in the building we investigated, I found this area the most difficult. While we were sitting there, we both heard the toilet in the gents flushing - None of the team or guests were in there at the time..."
Note: Interestingly, I visited the gents toilet at the end of the investigation at around 6.30 a.m and whilst there, I too heard the toilet in the next cubicle flush. Upon hearing this, I immediately swung open the unlocked door to find the small room empty and water still swirling down the bowel of the toilet. This actually scared me, and I had the overwhelming sense of being watched. Unfortunately I had packed away the equipment and failed to record this event.
Following this incident we all reconvened in the Bingo Hall at HQ for a short break. The DVR that had been recording all four infra-red cameras during the night was being monitored and logged for any visual activity by a member of the group at all times. All four cameras had showed up dust and small insects flying through the building, and these did look like unusual light anomalies. It is common for an untrained eye to recognise these natural phenomena as being paranormal, but in most cases they are in fact either dust particles, insects, moisture, or hairs.
Here is an example of dust and what appears to be an insect passing by the fixed DVR camera in the pool room.
Watch camera 3. You will notice a round light anomaly float passed which is caused by a spec of dust. This is then followed by a small white light quickly passing through the room from left to right. This can be commonly misinterpreted as paranormal, but is definitely an insect and most probably a small moth.
After analysing several hours of DVR footage, Matt Watkins could find no apparent paranormal activity captured by either of the cameras during the Long Crendon Investigation.
Debunking is something that G.P.S attempt at any given opportunity. The theory is that if something cannot be explained with science and logic, then we can consider the paranormal as a plausible explanation.
The use of the K2 meter in all our investigations has provided the group with much in terms of apparent paranormal communication, and also some real evidence that something other worldly is taking place.
However, during this investigation, the team realised that unfortunately the K2 meter, does in fact show abnormal results at times caused by interference from other electrical appliances and devices within a certain radius. Some of them are harder than others to identify, and it has been recorded that low flying aircraft or transport two way radio's do cause brief but significant fluctuations.
At around 2.30 a.m. Rob Powell, Toni Seale and Phil Measey were investigating the cellar again, and experienced spikes on the K2 meter in response to questions being asked. the following video shows how in this case, the fluctuations in the electromagnetic field causing the lights on the K2 meter to flash were attributed to Toni's digital camera and not the paranormal!
Following this experiement, the guests that had remained in the Bingo Hall decided to leave us to continue investigating in a more controlled manner. it had been very difficult to manage the investigation with so many guests in the building, and the problems that we were faced with in terms of the possibility of somebody tampering with evidence, or uncontroled movement around the building posed a big threat in our ability to conduct a scientific investiagtion and dubunk activity if necessary.
Unfortunately, we did not experience much activity anywhere else in the building, so focused the investigation on the main bar area as one team. It is here that we conducted a few short EVP's, and directed specific questions to members of the Club that had passed away in recent years and months.
The K2 meter and Gauss Master did respond to our questions and provided us with further evidence to suggest who, and not what may be present in the Club with us, but we have been asked not to report here the names of these individuals by the client.
At around 5.30 a.m. we decided to stop investigating and keep a quiet vigil to just listen and record the sounds and feelings that the building displayed. Several of us thought that we could see shadows moving around the room, and I personally felt my foot being touched as I lay on one of the bar sofas.
We did not sleep that night, and decided to end the investigation at 6.30 a.m. when day finally broke. We packed up and left the building by 7.45 a.m.
Final Thoughts:
The Long Crendon Club is a building full of emotion. People use it to meet each other, have fun, drink, and enjoy the company of friends and family. It is a house of social function, and the building itself has been there for well over 150 years. The former elementary school was heavily used by the local people, and many of the members that use the Club today once attended the school, and now drink in the very room where they were taught Maths, Science, and English.
Is the building haunted?
Our investigation has concluded some interesting results. Paranormal research is not a fixed science and is always evolving. G.P.S is constantly developing new techniques and learning our limitations with the equipment and skills that we possess.
During the investigation at the Long Crendon Club, we all had personal experiences that do defy logic and have no scientific or practical explanation. The EVP that we captured in the John Butler Bar, is indeed unique, and very clear. In all our previous cases, we have seldom achieved such a clear response or voice during an EVP experiment.
I have to say that this evidence alone, suggests that to me that there may be a restless spirit in that area of the building. Is it john Butler himself? We don't really know and maybe never will.
The experience that Toni and Nikki had in the ladies toilet was also interesting. They both felt uncomfortable even though there were no high EMF fields in there, and both heard the sound of a toilet flushing in the next room. This same experience also happened to me. I heard and saw the toilet flushing on its own. Does this indicate the presensce of a ghost or some invisible force dwelling in the area? or could it be put down to faulty plumbing systems? We did not check to see if this was in fact the case, as none of the group have any plumbing experience. In hindsight, I would have liked to have set up a DVR camera in the toilet area, but as we all had to still use this room, I felt obliged not to invade on anyone's privacy.
The fluctuations on the K2 devices that we all experienced, are very interesting. by asking direct questions to the spirits, we did experience some direct responses in terms of EMF fluctuations (flashing lights on the K2 meter). The K2 often flashed all the way to red, which indicated a massive change on the natural EMF field, within a 6 foot radius of the device. This may however, have been caused by passing lorries with built in high powered radios, or even low flying private aircraft, or power surges. I do believe that some of the K2 activity we did experience was paranormal in origin, but I still have an element of doubt in my mind due to one main contributing factor. Mobile phones!
As G.P.S have previously found, mobile phone interference does make the lights on the K2 meter flash. When certain GPRS and 3G phones are searching for a signal they change the EMF field massively, and I have estimated that this can be by as much as 20 milliguass, and also within a range of at least 25 meters.
My team all had their mobile phones switched off and not just on silent or set to vibrate. However, I cannot be sure that the guests that were present in the building during most of the investigation had turned their phones off completely. At one stage they were all definitely off as I had enforced and checked this, but for how long, I am not sure! This small difference may well have compromised all our K2 meter evidence.
We feel that there is at least two paranormally active areas of the building, and I am still hesitant to use the term 'haunted' for fear of conjuring images of spooky ghosts and terrifying apparitions. this is not the case! There is nothing to fear at this club, and the guests and staff can take comfort in the knowledge that they and their children are safe from harm. I feel that some of the activity may be residual energy, but i am sure that there is at least two spirits that are active in the Club. They may be the energies of the recently departed members, or they could be former teachers that worked at the school many years before.
The John Butler Bar for me gave the best evidence in terms of proof that a spirit is present there, but I am unable to say if it is john Butler or not. all I can confirm it as being a male presence, and benevolent.
