Devenport Case Investigation Report
Preliminary Investigation File
Location: (Devonport, Plymouth, England)
Preliminary Investigation Date: 24th September 2009
Investigation Date: 3rd October 2009
Time: Overnight
Duration of Investigation: 9:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.
Case History
We received a report that our client was experiencing regular unexplained activity in their two bedroom flat. G.P.S Director & Lead Investigator Ian Wilce carried out a preliminary visit to the property on the 24th September.
The activity was reported to occur from around the months of September and climaxing around the Christmas holiday period. The activity that has been reported by the clients’ includes large temperature changes, ectoplasm mists, and the unexplained movement of objects. On one occasion an unknown hand print appeared on a chair. This print was extremely large and a further hand print has been seen on the carpet in the children’s bedroom and again on the bedroom wall. The strange thing about the hand prints is that they were wet and described as being of an unknown oily texture. Most recently a mist moved through the living room and scared the client. This is the incident that prompted the clients’ father to ring G.P.S for help to explain these somewhat paranormal incidents.
The Preliminary Investigation - By Ian Wilce
After entering the two bedroom flat I realised that there was a deadly silence in all the rooms. It was a sort of silence that presses on your head. There was a constant temperature of about 18C in all rooms, and the central heating was turned off. I had taken base EMF readings using a Gauss Master which measured about 0.2 MilliGauss throughout the location.
The first room I entered was the children's bedroom which consisted of two single beds, two wardrobes, a computer table with a desktop computer that was turned off and a play corner with an array of soft toys and some battery operated
toys.
There had been reports of activity occurring in this room which included temperature changes, the hand prints that has appeared on the carpet and wall, and also a ticking sound that has been heard inside the wardrobe which increased in volume the nearer it was approached, with no explanation for the sound. According to the client at one point it was so distracting that they shouted at it to stop, it immedately started to tick faster and then suddenly stopped.
After some time in this room armed with the Gauss Master, K2 Meter and Digital Voice recorder, I experienced a couple of strange spikes on the K2, that seemed to emanate from the wardrobe. I decided to conduct a short Q&A session with the client and they mentioned their grandfather in an answer. Immediately I got a huge spike on both the K2 and the Gauss Master which I found very interesting. I then asked the client to mention him again and both EMF devices spiked again, which lead me to believe that the activity being displayed may be linked to the spiritual energy of the grandfather that passed away several years ago.
Following that incident we moved in to the living room area where reports of a
large hand print on the chair and more recently the mist or ectoplasm had taken shape. I received no EMF fluctuations in this room, but the feeling in there seemed more friendly and welcoming than the other rooms in the flat.
The client also reported seeing a blonde haired little girl the flat. The client has a mobile phone image where a streak of hair can be seen moving away from the camera I will be looking at the picture at a later date for further analysis. This little girl has also been seen by the previous tenant, who caught her son talking to an imaginary friend in his bedroom, he also described her as having blonde hair.
Could there be more than one spirit in this flat?
The G.P.S team will be returning this location on Saturday 3rd October for a full paranormal investigation.
A full investigation report will be available here shortly after.
Research Results - Devonport, Plymouth
There are plenty of reports about the Devonport area.
The first settlements of Plymouth itself are located at Maidenhead, dating back to the Bonze Age. Plymouth has always been a harbour and a trading point.
The actual docks, including Devonport were expanded under Sir Francis Drake. In 1690 the first dockyard, HMNB Devonport, opened on the banks of the Tamar and further docks were built in 1727, 1762 and 1793.
In the 18th century new houses were built near the dock, called Plymouth Dock at the time, and a new town emerged. In 1712 there were 318 men employed and by 1733 it had grown to a population of 3,000 people.
The city was heavily bombed by the Germans during World War II in a series of 59 raids known as the Plymouth Blitz. Although the dockyards were the principal targets, much of the city centre and over 3,700 houses were completely destroyed and more than 1,000 civilians lost their lives. The redevelopment of the city was planned by Sir Patrick Abercrombie in 1943 and by 1964 over 20,000 new homes had been built.
The royal dockyards at HMNB Devonport were the main target in order to facilitate Nazi German domination during the Battle of the Atlantic. Despite this, civilian casualties were very high and the dockyards continued in operation. The first bombs fell on the city on Saturday 6 July 1940 at Swilly killing 3 people. In early 1941, five raids reduced much of the city to rubble. The last attack came on 30 April 1944. During the 59 bombing attacks, 1,172 civilians were killed and 4,448 injured.
A lot of the Devonport victims were buried in mass graves on the Efford cemetery.

Our research team wasn’t able to find any particular results about the clients address itself, only that the street had the same name. There were houses there, where the dock workers lived in.
NOTE: After this report was published, We found out that there used to be a street there called King Street. King Street was totally flattened during WW2 and does not exist any more. The layout of the streets nowadays is different to what it used to be then.
We were looking for any death records of a little girl living and dying there, but we did not have any luck at all, because no one knows her name.
We will try to ask her to tell us her name during an EVP session or maybe through the Ovilus, so we might have something to use for further research on this case.
