Each month G.P.S will be featuring interviews with our very own investigation team to give you an insight into the life and mind of a paranormal Investigator.

This month we finally feature an interview with G.P.S Audio Analyst Manager John West.

John West - Audio Analyst Manager

Q1. Why did become a paranormal investigator?

I have always been intrigued in the paranormal ever since I was little, but to be honest as I got older my impression of a paranormal investigator was something out of a science fiction book, as I had no real idea of what the role was about. I had seen lots of shows on TV and became more and more interested in wanting to experience the same things they did for myself. I searched the net, spoke with other people and my fascination with it grew, to the point that I knew it was absolutely something I just had to do.

Q2. What do you do as a day job?

I am a full time secondary school teacher of music technology and media.

Q3. Have you ever seen a ghost?

I can not say for sure that I have definitely seen a ghost, but I experienced things that there is no way I can explain which have involved things being thrown, seeing shadows, hearing whispers and a light switch physically being switched off right next to me.

Q4. What special skills do you have that benefit the team?

As a music technology teacher I have always had a passion for music and sound. I love to work within a studio environment mixing and analysing it on a regular basis, so I felt it was only natural for me to extend and share my skills with the team regarding EVP work, helping to uncover some of the areas in which sound can be confused for potential paranormal activity and more recently the development of VSP work.

Q4. If you won the lottery what would you spend the money on?

I would love to buy a camper somewhere to get my head down regardless of where I am. I would update some of the gear in my recording studio and all the ghost hunting equipment I can get my hands on.

The rest I would share with my family.

Q5. How did you identify and develop the new theory of VSP?

I began identifying VSP when I started analysing EVP’s from the team. I began noticing shapes within the sound spectrum as either letters, faces, or objects etc. At first I thought it was just the way the wave shape was formed, but I as I looked and filtered more and more EVP’s and began to notice that these shapes where created by the unexplainable phenomenon and not the actual team, so it was at this point that I discussed with Ian and Barri the possibility that there could be something more to EVP’s than jus the sound they are creating.

Q6. Where is the scariest place you have been to and why?

The scariest place I have been to was on top of a telegraph pole (yes stood ON TOP of a telegraph pole) and jump off on to a trapeze bar, with an adventure weekend with some yr7 students a few years ago. I have always been scared of heights (really scared) and had egged them on to attempt it and thought to myself, well come on face your fear and get on with it. I never knew a telegraph pole could wobble so much.

Q7. What are your dreams and aspirations?

To do well in what I do such as my job, GPS, music etc etc.To continue to be a good dad and partner to my family, and to come face to face with a ghost.

Q8. Tell us a secret that nobody knows?

I do where underpants under my kilt!

Q9. If you could meet anybody, living or dead who would it be and what would you say?

That’s a tough one, as I feel so far really happy with the people I have met already in my life. That is not to say though that one day I will have a burning question that I wish I had asked someone who is already dead or a question for  someone already living!

Q10. What’s your favourite piece of ghost hunting equipment and why?

I love my K2 meter as I’ve been around recording equipment for years and I am certainly no stranger to it.

The K2 is something totally new to me and something I am really looking forward to exploring with a lot more. I am waiting with anticipation for the moment I get a positive and intelligent response from it during an investigation.
